Sorry...PTA Calling

It is 1:40 a.m. I got home two hours ago from a week long trip with Jeff's family. (It was wonderful.) I have 14 PTA emergency phone call messages that I have to deal with tomorrow, as well as a budget meeting, and Clint's first day of school. My blog is going to have to wait a few more days. I just checked in with everyone because I couldn't sleep...

And Jeff's Grandmother Esther died yesterday morning...just as all of the weeks activities were coming to an end. She had been going downhill for quite some time...the family was ready to let her go. We feel terrible that we will not be able to make it back for the funeral. Jeff's two sisters were able to stay. I have been thinking about her all the way home. She was amazing. Strong, sweet, tough. I think she was 94? She lived by herself in her own home in Oregon and was very independent up until the last few months...

An interesting way to end the week. I am still forming my thoughts about the whole thing. But I just wanted to acknowledge the fact that she impressed me...even though I didn't know her very well. I admired her, and am so grateful for the family that she raised and for the example she set. I will be posting more about her on the Bingham Family Blog, as I am sure many others will also.

It's funny that I just read a post by my friend Miranda all about why we blog. I have thought about this myself. Blogging for me, has become not an action, but a place. I feel secure with some of my deepest thoughts and feelings. I am not sure why...because I have deep relationships with sisters and friends and I feel safe knowing that I will be understood, and that others who don't understand, don't bother. So I feel like it's okay to ramble on about Esther, even though I don't make any sense. And it's the middle of the night. For some reason, even if no one out there is listening or reading...it makes me feel better to write it down. It makes my thoughts more concrete. It is something to do when sleep doesn't come...

I just wanted to post the most important aspect of my trip...the rest of it will have to wait.

Trust me, people are listening. Blogging is a wonderful tool to cleanse our heads of all the thoughts that can garble the true message. And about Jeffs Grandma, I'm so sorry. But know this, even though you may have only ever known her has an old woman, the fact that you were impressed so much by her does not go unnoticed. Especially by her family that has remained close to her. Telling stories to them, or even just to the family blog, will help everyone deal with her passing in a much healthier way. It opens up communication lines that otherwise may never have been tapped. I'm sorry to ramble, but death has been a close friend of mine lately, and I feel like I need to speak my piece.

And welcome home. Have a great school year. Hopefully those emergency calls end up being nothing too pressing.

I remember Esther. She was in the back seat of the car, I think when you were getting married. I remember being impressed with her at that time too. If I remember correctly she was a pretty lady, slim, tall. I don't remember why she was in the back of the car, I think it was just you, me and her. I just remember she had a testimony, and was interesting. Sorry to hear of her passing, but I guess we should rejoice for her! P.S. I'm glad your home.

Keli is right. People are listening. And we care, too. I'm glad you and Jeff were able to be at the reunion and be with family at such a pivitol time. We missed you though, and are glad you are back. And don't worry...the PTA is fine. You were where you needed to be!

I'm so sorry that Jeff's Grandmother has passed away. Greg's grandfather died a little while ago and even though he was ready to go and has lived a long happy life. It is very bitter sweet. As i'm sure that is how it is for you guys. We where so sad to know that he is no longer with us but happy that he has lived his life and is in a better place now surrounded by family and friends. Again I'm so sorry and will keep your family in my prayers.
