What About Clint???

Well, Clint is enjoying his summer...he just does not like to play with Derek and I they way he used to. Clint has been spending his mornings with us, completing a short list of jobs that include feeding and caring for Rex, completing at least one math worksheet, and practicing guitar. He then is forced to play outside, or ride his bike, because he is not allowed to watch TV or play video games until after 1:30 p.m. (Or else he would do nothing else all day). At least twice a week he is forced to go on a little adventure with Derek and I, and whoever else happens to be over. (Here they are at Temple Quarry). He tries hard not to complain too much about waiting until Derek is done throwing rocks in the river, or about how I will only let him get a small snowcone instead of the super large one. But over all, Clint is a great kid...I just need to remember to get the camera out more often for him...I just was feeling a little guilty for having pictures of Derek everywhere. Somehow, taking pictures of Clint and the Xbox just does not seem to be the most interesting subject for a blog post. But I do promise to get more pictures up of Clint ASAP! (You know I love you Clint!)

More Mad Science

Here is a quick review of some of the science experiments that we have done over the last week. Derek loves to make messes with science. Thanks to http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/, I have a pretty good supply of fun science materials...
Here are some UV beads that only change color in sunlight. Other types of light don't work.
And here is Derek experimenting with diffrent types of polymers. The powder for this experiment is the same stuff that is also used in diapers to absorb moisture. It expands and holds water...and gets cold. It is "Dehydrated Snow"...:)This is another type of polymer that becomes jelly like when it absorbs moisture. Derek decided to make it green.
Color mixing experiments with Braxton.
The colors look so pretty...Derek is learning that he can make 100's of shades of green.

Race Car Painting

Another favorite rainy day activity

It's one of those projects where the finished product is actually pretty cool looking, with the straight lines and blended colors.

I am so grateful I get to do all of this over with Derek again. Clint is getting too big.

I don't know why...

...but my boys never get as excited as I do...
There is just something so glorious about seeing all of those colors together in such straight lines with perfect tips. So flawless, brilliant, and beautiful.... They never keep that look for long.

Raising Butterflies

We Ordered some caterpillars from http://www.insectlore.com/. They came in a little box. They were very tiny. They turned into BIG caterpillars very quickly. Then they turned into cocoons after only 2 weeks.
After ten days, they came out of their cocoons and they were butterflies! I mean, we knew caterpillars usually turn into butterflies, but we hoped that we didn't mess the process up somehow. Derek was a little rough with the cup of caterpillars at times. But it was really amazing to see nature at work...
And it was also a little gross...We're not sure what that red stuff is...
We put flowers in the butterfly box and some sugar water on the flowers. After a couple of days, we decided that it was time to let them go.
Before they decided to fly away, they stopped to sit on Derek's fingertips and Clint's jeans to say "Thank You for taking care of us".
What a fun experience to hold some butterflies that Derek and Clint raised themselves. They were very good butterfly brothers, and were proud that all of their butterflies hatched, and grew to fly away on their own.
you listen closely, you can hear Clint explaning all about butterflies. He is the smart one.

Interview with Derek..and our Disney Trip Slide Show

Disneyland Highlights...

The Highlight of our trip for Derek was the Haunted Mansion. While Clint and Matthew kept their eyes closed throughout the ride, Derek insisted that we keep going back, I think I counted 8 times. Should I be worried?

Derek also loves the characters, and so do I. Disneyland is really a magical place. While Jeff, Clint and Matthew went on the Tower Of Terror, Derek and I waited in line to see Pluto. We waited for a while, and right before our turn, it was time for Pluto to take a break. We were a little sad, so I bought Derek a popsicle and we went to the fountian to sit and wait for the big boys to come back. While we were waiting, I felt a tap on my shoulder, and I turned around...and It was PLUTO!!! He came to US! I was so excited. Derek gave him a big hug, and then the crowd of other people came and formed a line behind us. But it was awesome that we got to give him a hug after all, and we were first! I think I was a little more excited than Derek.

For Clint and Matthew, this time was all about Indiana Jones. The first thing they did was buy Indie hats that they wore the entire time. We do love Indiana! Here they are at the Lego Shop in Downtown Disney right next to one of the crystal skulls.

There is a new show in Adventure land this year staring Dr. Indiana Jones. After the show, he has to keep running all over Adventureland from the bad guys. He can never slow down long enough to let anyone take a good picture, but a few times, he did run right past us!

Clint and Matthew loved it whenever Disney cast members would say "Hello, Dr. Jones"...or when they would nod to them and say, "Dr. Jones, Dr. Jones"...(get it? Because they were both wearing hats like Dr. Jones?...trust me, it was a riot for them!) They also got their hats "stolen" by Jack Sparrow, and Koda from Brother Bear. (They gave them back of course.)

We also really loved Newport Beach, and we were all wishing that our trip was not coming to an end and that we had a few more days.

I love the beach.

One of the highlights for Jeff was finally finding the cart where they sell the giant turkey legs that we have always seen people walking around with!

And for me, it was finally getting to see Fantasmic...

Needless to say...I cried.

Disneyland represents to me all that is good in the world. All that is possible. It puts me in touch with all of my hopes and dreams that I had when I was a little girl. It gives my boys amazing childhood memories, and helps us grow closer as a family. It was worth every penny and every second. I am so grateful we were able to go. I can't wait to go agian!

Pool Party

So I told Clint that we were going to his cousin Leah's 2 year old Birthday Party, and it was going to be a pool party.... This was not what he was expecting. The oldest kid there was Derek. Fortunately for me, Clint is an amazing kid. He got out his underwater skateboard from the car, and decided to skate down the slip N Slide! It was harder than it looks!

After a few tries, he got to where he could make it all the way down the slide. All of the little kids loved watching him.

And of course, Derek had to try.

He did pretty good too.

We can have fun anywhere! Isn't that what life is all about?

And Aunt Ginni made a DARLING Cake! I have never been able to get frosting that red! Happy Birthday Leah!!!

Happy Fathers Day Dad!

12 Things I love about my Dad:

1. Material things were never important. I remember him telling David and I when he caught us doing dives off the top of the piano onto the couch to move the couch closer to the piano so we wouldn't get hurt.

2. He is where Clint's musical genes come from.

3. He is a kid at heart.

4. He is a very hard worker and always took care of us and did what ever was necessary. I think he had 2 jobs for most of time I was at home. He taught all of us to be good workers.

5. He loves animals, and animals love him. Even spiders and Bees. I remember him getting a wasp out of a swimming pool and letting it crawl all over his hand. Of course it didn't sting him.

6. He believes in Santa Claus.

7. He is funny.

8. He taught us the gospel.

9. He and Mom are very giving and loving...he would give anyone the shirt off his back...and he and mom have helped countless people in ways they couldn't afford...and were always blessed.

10. He gave all of his daughters a model of what to look for in a good husband.

11. He was worthy and able to use the Priesthood whenever it was necessary.

12. He is one of the most humble and sweet people I have ever known, and I am so grateful that he is my Dad.

We Love the Jonas Brothers!!!

Clint and I love the Jonas Brothers. I am really glad that Clint has some cute role models who are also good kids who are openly Christian and have taken public stands on some morality issues. They also love their parents and are all a part of a family music business. Clint goes around the house singing their songs and they have made him be diligent in his guitar lessons. Clint aspires to be like them...and that is okay with me!!!!!

Special Screening

We did feel very "special" because my cute little niece Chelsea who is an amazing artist in the BYU animation program got us tickets to see Kung Fu Panda for free, and before anyone else. We loved the movie, and we love Jack Black, but most of all we Love Chelsea!

THANKS CHELSEA! (heart)
